To enter Sri Lanka, travelers must have a passport that is valid for at least six months from the expected date of departure. They also need to have at least one blank page in their passport for the entry stamp. Tourist visa is required for all visitors. Travelers coming from countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission must have a yellow fever vaccine. There are currency restrictions for both entry and exit, with amounts over USD 15,000 needing to be declared upon entry and amounts over USD 5,000 needing to be declared upon exit. U.S. citizens visiting Sri Lanka need either an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) or a visa, depending on the purpose of their visit. The ETA allows entry for up to 30 days and can be obtained online or at the port of entry. Business travelers and those visiting for religious or volunteer work or local employment need to obtain visas from the nearest Sri Lankan Embassy or Consulate before arrival. Visitors staying beyond the expiration date of their visa must obtain a visa extension.
