Visa to Iran for citizens of USA
Entry is not allowed without prior visa
Before traveling to Iran, it is important to have the following travel documents: a passport valid for at least 6 months, with one blank page required for entry stamp; a tourist visa, except for Kish Island; and proof of funds, with currency restrictions for entry set at over €10,000 and for exit set at over €5,000. No proof of vaccination is required. It is also important to note that U.S. citizens, particularly U.S.-Iranian dual nationals, may face wrongful detentions and arbitrary arrests in Iran. U.S.-Iranian dual nationals must enter and exit Iran on Iranian passports, as the Iranian government does not recognize dual nationality. U.S. government employees are strictly prohibited from traveling to Iran without prior authorization. U.S.-Iranian dual nationals should obtain necessary visas in their Iranian passports for countries they will transit on their return trip to the United States. U.S. citizens residing in Iran on permanent resident visas must obtain an exit permit each time they depart Iran, and all Iranian passport holders are required to pay an exit tax. Women who marry Iranian men may acquire Iranian nationality, and their U.S. passports may be confiscated by Iranian authorities. It is important to contact the Swiss Embassy or appropriate Iranian authorities for special circumstances cases involving divorce and custody rights in Iran. There are no HIV/AIDS entry restrictions for visitors to Iran, but residents must undergo a blood test, including an HIV test, to apply for a residency permit.
