Iranian visas must be obtained from the Iranian Interests section of the Embassy of Pakistan, Washington, D.C. or an Iranian embassy in a third country.[citation needed] Independent travelers must be accompanied by an authorized guide at all times.[citation needed] Admission refused if passport contains stamps or visas issued by Israel.[citation needed] The U.S. government advises its citizens not to visit Iran due to the risk of terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, arbitrary arrest of U.S. citizens, and wrongful detention.
